Sculpture
“Art is a step in the known toward the unknown”
Kahlil Gibran
Sculpture links science, technology, engineering, and math with the creative process and calls itself art. The end result - An entity that explores unknown possibilities and lets you see the world from every angle.
Large or small - sculpture is a fantastic way to explore the unknown.
As a self-declared pollution picker-upper and environmental artist I have created static and kinetic sculptures that tell a story about our impact on the planet.
Seismic Sound Scape 2022
Seismic Sound Scape is a collection of musical and visual interactions made using discarded waste. Created for the Cairns Children's Festival 2022
Seismic Sound Scapes is a collaboration between Cairns Children’s Museum and myself, utilising STEAM based activities to create percussive instruments that have been made from upcycled materials. The name is drawn from the vibrations of the earth and its crust caused by natural forces or by geological surveying methods and invites children and families to discover how sound impacts and influences the world around us.
Seismic Sound Scapes is a free play installation adventure into sound and sight where children (and their families) can explore a magical jungle of instruments made from recycled materials. Children are invited to experience an audible and visual landscape in the creation station; to imagine what the world might look and sound like with more or less of these influences. Encouraging sensory play, imagination and exploration, Seismic Sound Scapes is suitable for children and families of all abilities.
Shifting Seas 2021
Created for the Call of the Running Tide Festival held in Port Douglas - Shifting Seas is a kinetic sculpture
Hidden Rivers / Silent Streams 2019
Hidden Rivers / Silent Streams. Developed for the inaugural Call of the Running Tide Festival held in Port Douglas. Hidden Rivers / Silent Streams shows the rapid accumulation of plastic debris and the silence created in the natural world by the impact of plastic pollution. The aim is to help us recognise the pollution footprint that our society is placing on the world around us. It is my hope that the installation can be a conversation starter about the importance of looking after and preserving our natural heritage. This instillation showcases 4403 bottles collected from twenty locations between Cape Bedford, north of Cooktown and Martyville, south of Innisfail. Covering a distance of 484 kilometres, the bottles were collected over a period of 56 days.
Hidden Treasures 2019
Hidden Treasures is a fun interactive sculptural experience for children. Developed and installed for the 2019 Cairns Children's Festival The aim of Hidden Treasures is to foster a love of our natural world by bringing children and families into a simulated natural environment, and gently assist with recognising the pollution footprint that our society is placing on the natural world around us. It is my hope that the installation can be a conversation starter between children and families about the importance of looking after and preserving our natural heritage, and how simple acts like putting rubbish in the bin and recycling empty bottles can make a huge difference to our shared environments.
